East Sussex Wheelchair Service
What service we provide
The service provides assessments for people with mobility and other postural problems, supplying wheelchairs, pressure care cushions and accessories for wheelchairs.
Assessments are held in a variety of locations e.g. clinic, at home, at a day centre or school.
Personal Wheelchair Budgets (PWB) Service User Working Group
We are looking for 4 wheelchair user representatives. This could be a young person or adult, parent carer or carer. The representatives will be expected to work with the service in developing a number of approaches associated with Personal Wheelchair Budgets including:
- A survey for current users of the voucher scheme
- Pre-assessment information
- Assessments and support plans
- PWB information and materials
- Use of the Personal Wheelchair Budget outcome measure

How to refer into the service
Any qualified healthcare professional can refer to the service e.g. GP, district nurse, physiotherapist and occupational therapist.
All referrals will be looked at by one of our occupational therapists and prioritised according to the East Sussex Wheelchair Service specification and criteria.
This may result in direct prescription and supply of equipment to the client.
Alternatively a face-to-face assessment may be required, which may be held at a variety of locations.
